Governor Tim Walz today signed the Minnesota Police Accountability Act, authored by members of the People of Color and Indigenous (POCI) Caucus.

Walz Signs Executive Order on Masking

Governor Tim Walz today signed Executive Order 20-81, which requires Minnesotans to wear a face covering in indoor businesses and indoor public settings. Researchers have advocated for masking, calling it a simple and effective step to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus. To date, 30 states across the country, Washington D.C., and Puerto Rico have issued similar mandates.

Today, both the House and Senate convened floor sessions for what is expected to be the final day of the second special session of 2020.

House and Senate to Reconvene Monday

Both the House and Senate are scheduled to reconvene for floor sessions at 12:00 p.m. on Monday. Governor Walz and legislative leaders continue to negotiate a number of bills including a bonding bill, police accountability and reform measures, a supplemental budget bill, and modifications to executive peacetime emergency powers.

Walz Calls Special Session for Monday

Governor Tim Walz today announced that he will convene a special legislative session beginning on July 13, 2020. The Governor continues to push for legislation on police reform and accountability and has asked the Legislature to join his effort to build a stronger, more equitable economy by passing a robust bonding bill.

Tomorrow, Governor Tim Walz is expected to issue a proclamation calling for another special session of the legislature for Monday, July 13.
